The cabin is practical with rubber flooring, adjustable seats and a basic radio as standard. Climatic air conditioning is standard on Highline models. Diesel engines dominate with common-rail TDI units. Combined fuel figures reach up to the mid-30s mpg on regular models and higher on BlueMotion versions. An 80 litre lockable tank is fitted across the range.
Servicing uses either fixed intervals or a flexible LongLife regime that adapts to driving style and conditions. The service indicator shows when attention is due, with options designed for low whole-life costs.
Standard safety kit includes ABS, electronic brakeforce distribution, ESP stability control, hill start assist and driver plus front passenger airbags with deactivation. Side and curtain airbags plus lane change assist can be added. The 2013 Euro NCAP test on the Kombi returned a four-star overall result.
The van is built with a galvanised body and strong residual values. Rubber flooring and load-lashing rings aid everyday durability while optional parking sensors and reversing camera help with manoeuvring.
