Volkswagen Fox 2003–2020 car dimensions: 3828 mm long, 1660 mm wide and 1544 mm high. Unladen weight is 1,053 kg. Braked towing is 700 kg.
The cabin is practical and surprisingly roomy for a small hatch with a height-adjustable driver's seat, front cup holders, storage nets and a drawer under the driver's seat. Standard kit includes a heating and ventilation system with pollen filter plus a radio/CD player with four speakers. Climatic semi-automatic air conditioning is optional. Safety is covered by standard dual front airbags and ABS. ESP and side airbags are optional extras. No parking aids or advanced driver assists appear in the equipment lists.
Boot space measures 260 litres with the rear seats in place. The 50:50 split-folding rear backrest (standard on Urban) drops the floor flat for 1016 litres. A sliding rear bench on higher trims gives an intermediate 353 litres for longer items while keeping some rear seating.
Braked towing capacity is 700 kg on the 1.2-litre and 800 kg on the 1.4-litre. unbraked figures are 520 kg and 540 kg respectively. Payload sits at 432 kg for the lighter 1.2 models and rises to around 508 kg on the 1.4. The car is aimed at everyday and city use rather than heavy work, with no published heavy-duty cooling or reinforced suspension packages.
The cabin feels open and practical thanks to the tall 1544 mm roof line that gives good headroom front and rear. Cloth seats include a height-adjustable driver’s seat with under-seat drawer as standard. Front and rear cup holders plus seat-back nets add everyday convenience. Optional Climatic semi-automatic air conditioning and an electric glass sunroof improve year-round comfort on higher grades.
50-litre fuel tank. 1.2 petrol combined 6.1 l/100 km, 1.4 petrol 6.7 l/100 km, 1.4 TDI 4.9 l/100 km.

Euro NCAP 2005: 4 stars adult occupant, 4 stars child occupant, 2 stars pedestrian.
Standard safety: ABS, driver and front-passenger airbags, front seat-belt pretensioners and height adjustment, ISOFIX rear mounts, head restraints on all seats.
Galvanised body with 12-year anti-perforation warranty.
Small three- and four-cylinder petrol engines plus a 1.4 TDI diesel keep fuel use modest for city and short-trip driving. Official combined figures sit between roughly 5 and 7 litres per 100 km depending on the unit chosen.
Servicing follows a straightforward time-and-distance schedule. An oil-change service is due every 15 000 km or once a year. a more thorough inspection service follows every 30 000 km or two years. The 1.2-litre petrol uses a timing chain, removing the need for periodic belt replacement.
A rigid laser-welded and partially galvanised body helped the Fox earn four Euro NCAP stars for adult protection and four for child protection in 2005. Dual front airbags, ABS and ISOFIX anchors come as standard. side airbags and ESP were optional extras on most markets.
The simple mechanical layout and common Volkswagen parts keep day-to-day ownership costs low. Regular oil and filter changes plus attention to the rear drum brakes and easy-entry seat mechanisms are the main items to watch on higher-mileage examples.
