Toyota Prius 2015–2022 car dimensions: 4570 mm long, 1760 mm wide and 1470 mm high. Unladen weight is 1,375 kg. Braked towing is 725 kg.
The cabin has a standard touchscreen display and automatic smart-flow climate control that adjusts airflow based on occupied seats. Cruise control is standard, with adaptive radar versions part of the safety suite. A reversing camera comes standard. Automatic emergency braking and lane keep assist with steering help are standard via Toyota Safety Sense on most models of this generation. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay arrived mid-generation as standard on later models. Blind spot warning and parking sensors with assist appear on higher trims or packages.
Boot space measures 502 litres with seats up when using a tyre repair kit, or less with a spare wheel. Folding the 60/40 rear seats expands it to 1633 litres. US figures list 24.6 to 27.4 cubic feet seats up depending on equipment.
Towing capacity is 725 kg for both braked and unbraked trailers, a first for the Prius. Payload capacity is 375 kg. The hatchback layout suits light cargo and everyday work duties without special heavy-duty options.
The cabin feels quiet and refined with sound-insulating laminated windshield glass plus thicker floor silencers and absorbers. Higher grades add laminated front door glass. Front seats give firm support. higher grades offer 8-way power driver adjustment with lumbar plus heated SofTex trim. Dual-zone automatic climate control uses S-FLOW to direct air only to occupied seats. The lower driving position and open layout create a spacious feel for a compact hybrid, with good front head and leg room plus 60/40 split rear seats.
1.8-liter hybrid system delivers high fuel efficiency across grades
Oil and filter service every 10,000 miles or 12 months with specified synthetic
Euro NCAP 5-star overall rating
Star Safety System standard with VSC, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist
Toyota Safety Sense with pre-collision, lane departure alert, adaptive cruise and auto high beams standard on most grades from 2017
Seven or more airbags including driver knee airbag standard
The full hybrid powertrain pairs a 1.8-liter Atkinson-cycle engine with electric motors for strong real-world efficiency. EPA combined ratings reach the mid-50s mpg on Eco grades and stay near 50 mpg on other FWD models. AWD-e versions trade a few mpg for extra traction. Regenerative braking recovers energy and cuts friction brake wear in normal use.
Routine servicing follows the maker schedule with oil and filter changes at 10,000 miles or 12 months when the correct low-viscosity synthetic is used. Coolant for the engine and inverter lasts to 100,000 miles initially. Cabin and engine air filters plus brake fluid need periodic replacement. the hybrid system itself requires little beyond coolant checks and battery cooling intake inspection.
Crash protection is strong. The 2016 model earned a five-star Euro NCAP rating with high adult-occupant scores. IIHS results show Good ratings in most crashworthiness tests. Standard equipment includes the Star Safety System and, from 2017, full Toyota Safety Sense with automatic emergency braking that detects pedestrians, lane-departure alert with steering assist, full-speed radar cruise and automatic high beams. Multiple airbags and LATCH anchors complete the kit.
Daily ownership is straightforward. The hybrid battery sits under the rear seat so the boot stays unobstructed. Reliability is high when oil, coolant and the HV battery cooling path are kept clean. The car rewards smooth driving with low running costs and long service life.
