Standard Toyota Safety Sense 3 with pre-collision, adaptive cruise, lane trace, road sign assist, plus eight airbags, rear seat reminder and safe exit assist.

All versions are hybrid or plug-in hybrid. The 1.8-litre unit delivers low real-world fuel use around the quoted WLTP figures. The 2.0-litre hybrid adds power while staying frugal. The plug-in version cuts fuel further on short trips when the battery is charged.

Servicing follows a simple annual or 10,000-mile schedule. Hybrid components need little extra attention beyond the regular checks. The car is designed for low running costs with regenerative braking that extends pad life.

Safety kit is comprehensive from the base grade. Toyota Safety Sense 3 covers emergency braking for cars, pedestrians and cyclists, plus lane keeping and adaptive cruise. Extra systems such as blind-spot monitoring and cross-traffic alert come on higher grades or packs. The five-star Euro NCAP score confirms strong crash protection and assist performance.

Day-to-day ownership is straightforward. The boot holds up to 388 litres and the hybrid system needs no special habits beyond occasional charging on the PHEV. Soft materials and digital screens wear well with normal care.
