Mitsubishi Pajero 1999–2006 car dimensions: 4280 mm long, 1875 mm wide and 1845 mm high. Unladen weight is 1,900 kg. Braked towing is 2,800 kg.
The cabin has a car-like dashboard with large dials and a broad centre console for the Super Select 4WD controls. Automatic climate control and cruise control are available across grades. Power windows, tilt steering and multi-info display feature on most versions. Driver aids are limited to ABS with EBD plus traction and stability control on higher trims. No advanced electronic safety systems or cameras are fitted.
Boot space behind the rear bench is modest at 415 litres. Folding the 60/40 split rear seats creates a flat load floor and expands capacity to 1293 litres.
Braked towing capacity is 2800 kg with unbraked limited to 750 kg. Payload is 515 kg depending on equipment.
The short-wheelbase layout with Super Select 4WD and independent suspension suits light work and off-road duties while remaining compact for trails.
The cabin feels more car-like than earlier Pajeros thanks to the monocoque body and fully independent suspension all round. Front seats are supportive with height adjustment available, and higher grades add power adjustment plus heaters. Automatic climate control keeps the space even, while the short-wheelbase three-door layout keeps things compact yet practical for five.
3.2 DI-D diesel combined fuel use around 9.3 l/100 km on 3-door
ABS with EBD standard across grades
Dual-stage front airbags and side airbags standard
Super Select II 4WD with rear diff lock
ANCAP 4-star rating on 2004 models
Fuel use sits at roughly 9-10 l/100 km combined for the 3.2 diesel in the short three-door, with a 71-litre tank. Petrol V6 versions drink more, closer to 13 l/100 km. Real-world figures rise off-road or with a load.
Servicing follows normal schedules for oil, filters and checks. the diesel uses a timing chain. Watch suspension bushes and electrics for water ingress on older examples. Parts remain available through the dealer network.
Safety kit starts with dual front airbags, side airbags, multi-mode ABS and EBD plus three-point belts with pretensioners. The RISE body structure adds rigidity. Higher grades later gained more airbags. No Euro NCAP score is published, but ANCAP gave four stars under 2004 rules.
Live with it by keeping the Super Select system and freewheel hubs serviced, checking for rust at seams, and using quality diesel. The independent suspension improves road manners over older ladder-frame models while retaining strong off-road angles.
