Mitsubishi L200 2015–2019 car dimensions: 5205 mm long, 1785 mm wide and 1775 mm high. Unladen weight is 1,860 kg. Braked towing is 3,100 kg.
The double-cab cabin seats five with car-like comfort, improved sound insulation and supportive seats. Base models have manual air conditioning and a basic radio, while higher grades add dual-zone climate control, a 7-inch touchscreen with smartphone link for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control with speed limiter, reversing camera, parking sensors, lane departure warning and forward collision mitigation. Blind spot warning appears on top grades.
The double-cab load bed is 1520 mm long, 1470 mm wide and 475 mm high, giving about 1061 litres. It takes a Euro pallet between the arches and has six lashing points.
Braked towing starts at 3100 kg and rises to 3500 kg from 2018 for three-axle trailers, with 750 kg unbraked. Double-cab payload is 1045 kg. Leaf-spring rear suspension is heavy-duty as standard and suits loaded work use with the available 4WD systems.
The cabin is car-like with a snug low seating position, wider front seats that have deep cushions and large side bolsters for support, plus class-leading legroom and a 25-degree reclined rear bench with good headroom. Sound insulation keeps it quieter than other pick-ups on the motorway, and higher grades add dual-zone climate control, leather trim, heated front seats and a power driver's seat.
2.4-litre diesel engine and 75-litre fuel tank
Service every 12,500 miles or 12 months
Euro NCAP 4-star rating from 2015
Up to seven airbags, ABS with EBD, ASTC stability and traction control as standard
Hill Start Assist and Trailer Stability Assist standard
Lane Departure Warning on higher grades
The 2.4-litre diesel is smooth and quiet with strong low-end torque. Claimed combined economy reaches the low-40s mpg on lighter models and high-30s on lifestyle versions, helped by stop-start on manuals. The 75-litre tank gives a useful range for long hauls or site work.
Service intervals are set at 12,500 miles or once a year. Routine items such as oil, filters and brakes are straightforward and parts prices stay reasonable for a one-tonne pick-up.
Safety kit is strong for the class. Every version gets ABS with EBD, Brake Assist, ASTC, Hill Start Assist and Trailer Stability Assist. Higher grades add Lane Departure Warning and a reversing camera. The 2015 Euro NCAP test gave the double-cab four stars, with solid adult and child scores.
Day-to-day ownership is simple. The ride is more composed than older pick-ups, visibility is good and the load bed is easy to use. Keep an eye on fuel-filter condition after higher mileages and the five-year warranty covers most eventualities.
