Combined fuel use 4.7-4.9 l/100 km for 1.5-litre Cooper petrol

Euro NCAP four-star rating

Standard front, side and curtain airbags plus knee airbags in some markets

DSC stability control with DTC and ABS standard

Condition Based Service system

Active bonnet for pedestrian protection

The 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol in the Cooper 5-door returns combined fuel consumption of 4.7 to 4.9 litres per 100 km according to official figures, with slight variation by manual or automatic gearbox. Diesels in the range are more frugal still.

A Condition Based Service system tracks oil condition and other factors to show when maintenance is due rather than fixed schedules. Work is best done at a MINI specialist to keep systems working as designed.

Crash tests gave the generation a four-star Euro NCAP result with strong scores for adult and child protection. Standard kit covers multiple airbags, stability systems, tyre pressure monitoring in many markets and an active bonnet that lifts on pedestrian impact.

Keeping the car means following the service indicators and checking for run-flat tyres or repair kit as fitted. Optional driver aids such as collision warning can be added for extra peace of mind on longer ownership.
