Land Rover Range Rover 1985–1994 dimensions, tows 3,500 kg

Braked towing is 3,500 kg.

Land Rover Range Rover 1985–1994 car dimensions: 4450 mm long, 1818 mm wide and 1800 mm high. Unladen weight is 1,870 kg. Braked towing is 3,500 kg.

The cabin provides a high seating position with large windows for clear all-round visibility. Higher grades such as Vogue SE include leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, air conditioning and cruise control as standard. Lower grades have cloth seats with manual adjustments and basic heating and ventilation. Power windows, central locking and a stereo cassette system are common. No electronic parking aids or advanced driver systems appear in the equipment lists.

Boot space measures about 1020 litres with the rear seats in place. Folding the seats increases capacity to roughly 2000 litres. The split tailgate aids loading of larger items.

Braked towing capacity reaches 3500 kg with unbraked at 750 kg. Payload is typically 440 kg on standard models, rising slightly on long-wheelbase versions. A Boge self-levelling unit at the rear maintains height under load. Later LSE models add electronic air suspension for adjustable ride height. The permanent four-wheel drive and long-travel coil springs support mixed road and off-road work including trailer use.

The cabin offers a high seating position with clear views over the bonnet. Front seats provide power adjustment for height, recline and fore-aft travel on most models, with adjustable armrests. Leather upholstery and wood trim appear on higher grades. Air conditioning is fitted as standard or optional depending on market and trim. An electric tilt-and-slide sunroof is available on many versions. Rear passengers have armrests and split folding seats for load space.

Petrol V8 engines of 3.5 or 3.9 litres, with 4.2-litre option on later long-wheelbase models. turbo-diesel 2.4 or 2.5-litre units also offered.

Service interval every 6,000 miles or 6 months for oil and filter changes on petrol V8 models.

Four-wheel disc brakes standard throughout.

ABS anti-lock brakes available from 1989, initially optional on Vogue SE and standard on North American models, later standard more widely.

Driver and passenger airbags available from 1994 on soft-dash models.

Child locks on rear doors and inertia-reel seat belts fitted.

Fuel options centre on the aluminium V8 petrol engines, first at 3.5 litres then enlarged to 3.9 litres, with a 4.2-litre version on long-wheelbase cars. Turbo-diesel engines from VM Motori or later Land Rover Tdi units provide an alternative. The petrol versions are known for strong torque but higher consumption in mixed use.

Servicing follows a schedule with oil and filter renewal every 6,000 miles or six months. Air filters, fuel filters and other items come due at longer intervals such as 12,000 miles. Transfer box and axle oils need periodic changes. Regular fluid checks and cooling system attention help the V8 stay reliable.

Safety equipment starts with servo-assisted disc brakes at all four wheels. ABS arrives mid-generation as an option then becomes more common, designed for both on- and off-road use. Side intrusion beams and crush cans appear on later cars. Airbags join the list only at the very end of production with the revised soft dashboard. Seat belts include height adjustment and child locks.

Living with the car means watching for rust on the steel chassis and body frame while the aluminium panels resist corrosion. Later air suspension needs careful maintenance if fitted. Electrical items such as power seats and locks add convenience but can develop faults with age. Specialist parts support keeps the vehicle usable for both road and light off-road work.
