Air conditioning is available with controls in the centre panel and works separately from the heater. Side windows open only a few inches. Headroom is limited though later series raise the roof slightly for more space. Visibility is poor especially to the rear and noise from the engine and gearbox is high.

Fuel tank capacity 120 litres

Fuel consumption 11 mpg

Requires 100 octane fuel

Oil and filter changes at least every 6000 miles

Valve clearances adjusted every 15000 miles

Ventilated disc brakes with vacuum assist and twin circuits

The fuel system uses dual electric pumps and six Weber carburettors. Tank capacity is 120 litres held in the sills. Consumption sits around 11 mpg. High-octane fuel is specified.

Servicing needs specialist attention. Oil changes use a large volume of semi-synthetic fluid at least every 6000 miles. Valve clearance work every 15000 miles means removing the carburettors. Timing chain adjustment or replacement often requires engine removal and is labour-heavy. Clutch changes are also engine-out jobs. Brake and clutch fluid needs changing every two years. Parts can be scarce and sometimes need fabricating.

Safety kit centres on larger ventilated disc brakes all round with vacuum assistance and twin circuits. The tubular steel spaceframe provides the structure. No crash-test ratings appear in the records for production cars. Scissor doors make exit harder after a rollover though no special release systems were added.

Living with the car means watching for chassis tube corrosion and aluminium panel issues especially where fibreglass extensions meet the body. Suspension rose joints wear quickly and need regular checks. Air conditioning can be temperamental yet is essential as the cabin heats up fast. Expect high running costs and the need for experienced mechanics to keep it reliable.
