Base models have manual air conditioning and a standard audio system with Bluetooth, USB and steering-wheel controls. Higher grades add dual-zone automatic climate control, a touchscreen UVO or navigation system, rear parking sensors and a reversing camera. Cruise control is standard across the range. Blind-spot detection arrived as an option on 2014 higher trims. No automatic emergency braking or lane-keep assist was offered.
With five seats in place the boot holds 1047 litres. Fold the second row and space opens to 2052 litres. Seven-seat versions leave 258 litres behind the third row.
Four-cylinder models tow 750 kg unbraked or braked. V6 models tow 750 kg unbraked and up to 1588 kg braked when fitted with the trailer package. Australian diesels are rated higher at 2000-2500 kg braked.
The cabin feels roomy with space for five or seven and good legroom in the second row. Higher trims bring leather seats that heat and ventilate up front plus heat for second-row cushions. Dual-zone climate control and an available panoramic sunroof with power shade open up the space. Power multi-way seats with driver memory lock in a solid driving position.

Fuel economy reaches 21 city and 30 highway mpg with the 2.4-liter GDI four-cylinder on front-drive models. V6 versions return around 20 city and 26 highway. Regular unleaded is fine for both engines.
Service centers follow a 7,500-mile or six-month oil-change schedule for normal driving. Severe use shortens that to 3,750 miles. Air filters, coolant and other items follow longer intervals listed in the owner’s manual.
Crash tests earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick with Good scores across the board for the generation. Standard kit includes dual front, side and curtain airbags, ABS, stability control and active front head restraints. A rear camera and blind-spot detection appear on higher trims.
The long powertrain warranty and solid safety scores make the Sorento easy to keep for years. Cargo space expands from 9 cubic feet behind the third row to more than 70 with seats folded, and the power liftgate on top models simplifies loading.
