Hyundai i20 2014–2020 car dimensions: 4035 mm long, 1734 mm wide and 1474 mm high. Unladen weight is 1,055 kg. Braked towing is 910 kg.
Air conditioning is available from lower grades with automatic climate control on Premium and above. Cruise control with speed limiter and rear parking sensors come on SE trim, front sensors on Premium SE. Lane departure warning is standard from SE. A 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto arrived with the 2018 facelift, often with a reversing camera on nav-equipped cars. Automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection came later in the run. The cabin feels roomy for a supermini with supportive seats and easy controls for daily driving.
Boot space measures 326 litres with the rear seats up and expands to 1042 litres when the 60/40 split rear seats fold flat. A variable-height boot floor is fitted on higher trims to ease loading.
The 1.2 MPI can tow 450 kg unbraked or 910 kg braked. Payload capacity is 525 kg based on typical kerb and gross weights.
It suits light trailer or shopping duties and family loads without specialised work equipment.
The cabin is roomy for a supermini with class-leading combined legroom for five adults and supportive front seats that suit longer trips. Higher grades add heated front seats and a heated steering wheel plus a panoramic sunroof that opens the space and floods it with light. Materials feel neat and solid with a simple layout. rear access is easy and the 326-litre boot expands usefully when the 60/40 seats fold.
1.2 MPI petrol returns combined figures around 4.8-5.1 l/100 km and 112-119 g/km CO2 depending on wheels and exact tune.
Service interval for petrol models is typically 15 000 km or 12 months.
Euro NCAP 2015 rating is four stars (adult 85 %, child 73 %, pedestrian 79 %, assist 64 %).
Standard safety includes six airbags, ESC, ABS, ISOFIX anchors and seat-belt reminders.
The 1.2 MPI 84 PS unit is a straightforward naturally aspirated petrol that delivers modest performance yet strong claimed economy in the high 50s mpg range under the older NEDC cycle, with CO2 figures low enough for favourable tax bands in most European markets. Real-world use settles a little higher but remains frugal for mixed driving.
Petrol versions follow a 15 000 km or annual service schedule for oil and filter changes, with air filter and cabin filter at longer intervals and spark plugs around 50-60 000 km. The timing chain needs no scheduled replacement. Warranty cover is five years unlimited mileage in many markets, helping keep ownership costs predictable.
Safety equipment starts with six airbags, electronic stability control, ABS and ISOFIX points, enough for a solid four-star Euro NCAP result in 2015. Later facelift cars added more driver aids such as autonomous emergency braking and lane-keep assist on mid and higher grades. The structure protects well in frontal tests. side-curtain deployment had a noted trim interference issue on the tested car.
Living with the car is simple: the cabin stays quiet enough at town speeds, seats support well for the class, and the large boot plus split-fold rear bench make family or shopping trips easy. Higher trims bring heated seats and the panoramic roof that improve daily comfort without complexity.
