Official Europe fuel use 3.4 l/100 km with 80 g/km CO2.
Runs on 95 RON unleaded. 40-litre tank.
Dual front airbags and ABS standard.
Conventional servicing costs. long tune-up interval.
Aluminium body designed for easy accident repair.
Meets full frontal, offset, side and rear crash standards.
Fuel economy is the standout: Europe figures are 3.4 litres per 100 km combined and 80 g/km CO2, helped by the lean-burn 1.0-litre three-cylinder, electric assist, idle-stop, light aluminium body and 0.25 Cd shape. Regular unleaded is all it needs and the tank holds enough for long range in careful use.
Servicing is described as conventional with no special hybrid penalties. The engine has a long interval between major tune-ups and the IMA battery pack is managed to avoid deep discharge or overcharge. The car will still run on petrol alone if the motor fails.
Safety kit centres on dual front SRS airbags, seat-belt pretensioners with load limiters, ABS with brake assist and electric power steering. The extruded and die-cast aluminium structure uses crumple zones and rigid side sills to exceed Honda’s own tests at 55 km/h full frontal, 64 km/h offset, 50 km/h side and 50 km/h rear. Pedestrian features include collapsible bonnet hinges.
Living with the Insight means light weight for easy handling and low running costs, though the two-seat layout and modest cargo space suit personal use. The aluminium body resists traditional rust but needs care if damaged. keep the hybrid battery healthy by regular driving.
