Ford S-Max 2019–2023 dimensions & weight: 1,901 kg

Braked towing is 2,000 kg.

Ford S-Max 2019–2023 car dimensions: 4796 mm long, 1916 mm wide and 1655 mm high. Unladen weight is 1,901 kg. Braked towing is 2,000 kg.

The cabin uses an 8-inch touchscreen with SYNC 3 that includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard. Dual-zone climate control is fitted across the range, with three-zone available. Cruise control comes standard, while adaptive cruise with stop-go is pack-dependent. Front and rear parking sensors are standard on most grades. Pre-Collision Assist with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian/cyclist detection is standard. Lane-keeping aid and blind-spot warning with cross-traffic alert appear on higher trims or in the Driver Assistance Pack. A reversing camera is standard on Vignale and optional elsewhere.

Boot space measures 965 litres in five-seat mode laden to the roof and expands to 2020 litres with the middle and rear seats folded. Seven-seat mode leaves 285 litres. Seats fold flat via Easy Fold for flexible loading.

Most diesel versions tow up to 2000 kg braked and 750 kg unbraked. Some lower-power or hybrid models are rated lower at around 1800 kg or 1560 kg braked. Trailer stability control is included with the electronic stability system. Sports suspension is fitted on ST-Line grades.

The cabin feels spacious and car-like with a low seating position, soft-touch materials and ambient lighting on higher grades. Front seats offer strong support via multi-contour designs with air bladders and massage on Vignale, plus heating and cooling options. Dual or triple-zone climate keeps all rows comfortable, while optional panoramic roof and acoustic glass make the space airy yet quiet for long family trips.

Diesel and hybrid engines available with claimed combined fuel use from around 6 l/100 km on efficient variants.

Service intervals typically every 12,500 miles or annually depending on engine and use.

Five-star Euro NCAP rating from 2015 test.

Standard kit includes multiple airbags, ESC, ABS with EBD, pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping aid and tyre pressure monitoring.

Fuel options centre on efficient 2.0 EcoBlue diesels in 150 or 190 PS forms, plus a later 2.5 hybrid. Official figures put the thriftiest diesels near 50 mpg under WLTP, though real-world use with a full load or AWD drops that. The hybrid aims for similar economy with smoother urban running.

Servicing follows Ford schedules of roughly 20,000 km or one year for oil and filters on most engines. Brake fluid every two years and longer intervals for belts or coolant keep costs predictable at the large dealer network.

Safety starts with the Intelligent Protection System packing front, side, curtain and knee airbags plus ESC, curve control and active rollover protection. Pre-collision assist, traffic sign recognition and lane keep are widely standard, with adaptive cruise and blind-spot monitoring on packs or higher trims. Isofix points cover the middle row.

Living with the S-Max means easy seat folding for flexible loads, keyless entry on mid grades and a quiet cabin that stays practical for daily family duties. Regular oil changes protect the engines long-term.
