The L runs a 658 cc naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine mated to a CVT. Official WLTC figures stand at 22.6 km/L for two-wheel-drive and 20.8 km/L for four-wheel-drive versions. The fuel tank holds 30 litres of regular unleaded petrol.

Legal 12-month inspections are mandatory. Daihatsu provides free checks at one month and six months after purchase. Engine oil changes for the naturally aspirated engine follow the maintenance schedule in the owner’s manual, commonly every 10,000 km or six months under normal use.

Safety equipment centres on the updated Smart Assist system. It includes collision-avoidance braking for vehicles and pedestrians (day and night), false-start suppression, lane-departure warning and suppression, and auto high beam. 2026 updates add cyclist detection and intersection support for oncoming vehicles and crossing pedestrians. Six airbags, ABS, VSC and TRC come as standard. The model earned a four-star JNCAP overall rating.

As a kei tall wagon the Tanto L is straightforward to keep. Parts remain widely available through the Daihatsu network. Regular inspections and timely fluid changes maintain reliability for everyday family duties.
