The cabin has a BMW Curved Display as standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Two-zone automatic climate control comes fitted. The 218i uses a 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine producing 100 kW/136 hp and 230 Nm. Official WLTP combined consumption sits between 6.2 and 6.8 litres per 100 km with CO2 figures of 140–154 g/km. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic is standard.
Servicing follows BMW’s Condition Based Service system that tracks oil condition and driving style. The maximum oil-service interval is two years irrespective of mileage. brake fluid is also on a two-year cycle. Other items appear on the iDrive display when due.
The car scored a full five stars in the 2022 Euro NCAP tests. Adult occupant protection reached 88 %, child 81 %, vulnerable road users 79 % and safety assist 92 %. Standard equipment includes a centre airbag between the front seats, an active bonnet, extensive collision and lane-support systems plus a reversing camera and Park Assist.
