BMW 1 Series 2017–2019 dimensions, tows 1,500 kg

Braked towing is 1,500 kg.

BMW 1 Series 2017–2019 car dimensions: 4329 mm long, 1765 mm wide and 1421 mm high. Unladen weight is 1,375 kg. Braked towing is 1,500 kg.

The cabin features automatic single-zone climate control as standard across the range, with dual-zone available on higher grades or as an option. A 6.5-inch non-touch display comes standard with the iDrive system, while an 8.8-inch touchscreen is part of the optional Navigation Professional. Apple CarPlay is available as an option with the navigation system, but Android Auto is not offered. Cruise control with braking function is standard on select grades like certain Business and Shadow editions and optional elsewhere. Rear parking sensors are standard on some trims and optional on others, with front sensors and a reversing camera also optional. Automatic emergency braking via City Collision Mitigation and lane departure warning are available in the optional Driving Assistant package.

Boot space measures 360 litres with seats up and expands to 1200 litres with the rear seats folded, providing a practical load area for a compact hatchback with a 60:40 split rear seat as standard.

Towing capacity reaches up to 1500 kg braked on diesel models and 1200 kg on petrol models where a detachable towbar is fitted as an option, with unbraked limits around 650-750 kg depending on the variant. Payload is typically 565 kg. M Sport models include lowered sport suspension as standard, with adaptive versions optional on some grades. The car suits light work use with its hatchback practicality but lacks dedicated heavy-duty features beyond the optional towbar and Trailer Stability Control.

The cabin offers a premium feel with quality materials and a driver-focused layout. High-bolstered front seats provide firm support for cornering yet remain comfortable on longer trips. Front space and storage are generous while the rear is more compact owing to the centre tunnel. Noise isolation is strong for relaxed motorway cruising. Optional electric seat adjustment, heated front seats and a glass sunroof add further comfort on higher specifications.

Condition-based servicing with no fixed intervals

Five-star Euro NCAP rating for the generation

Standard DSC including ABS, ASC and DTC plus multi-airbag system

Tyre pressure indicator standard

EfficientDynamics features including Auto Start-Stop and ECO PRO mode

Run-flat tyres available or standard on many variants

Fuel use benefits from BMW EfficientDynamics technology as standard. This includes Auto Start-Stop, brake energy regeneration, ECO PRO mode and reduced rolling-resistance tyres on most models. Combined consumption figures differ by engine but remain competitive for the class.

Servicing follows a condition-based system. The car monitors fluid quality and component wear then displays the next service due date or distance. Fixed service plans covering several years are available to control costs.

Safety equipment is comprehensive. The generation scored five stars in Euro NCAP testing. Standard items include driver and passenger airbags, side and head airbags, three-point belts with front tensioners and force limiters, crash sensors and a tyre pressure indicator. Dynamic Stability Control with ABS, ASC, DTC, cornering brake control and dynamic brake control is also standard.

Living with the car is straightforward. Run-flat tyres allow continued driving after a puncture on equipped models. Regular condition-based checks keep the vehicle reliable, and the rear seats fold to expand luggage space when needed.
