Audi quattro 1984–1991 car dimensions: 4404 mm long, 1723 mm wide and 1344 mm high. Unladen weight is 1,300 kg. Braked towing is 1,500 kg.
The cabin has supportive front sport seats with height adjustment and good lateral hold plus room for rear passengers. Digital instruments arrived mid-generation along with an onboard computer and check system. Power windows, central locking and cruise control were available while heating and ventilation came standard and air conditioning was optional. ABS became standard from 1984. No other electronic driver aids are present.
Boot space measures 330 litres with the rear seats in place and expands to 383 litres when folded. The large fuel tank limits some of the available room.
Braked towing capacity reaches 1500 kg with unbraked at 600 kg. Payload sits at 460 kg. The car suits light trailer work but remains a performance coupe first.
The cabin offers ergonomic front sport seats with strong lateral support and driver height adjustment for long drives without fatigue. Standard high-quality velour upholstery covers seats, doors and headliner, with optional full leather. A responsive heating and ventilation system with multiple vents keeps the interior comfortable. From 1984 the digital instrument cluster and check system add period detail, while rear space suits adults and visibility stays clear.
Requires Super petrol 98 RON.
Fuel use around 15.4 l/100 km urban, 7.7 at 90 km/h, 9.9 at 120 km/h.
90-litre fuel tank.
ABS standard from 1984 model year.
Main service after 6 months or 7500 km initially.
All-round disc brakes with ventilated fronts.
The five-cylinder turbo runs on Super fuel and returns the quoted DIN figures of 15.4 l/100 km in the urban cycle, 7.7 l/100 km at a steady 90 km/h and 9.9 l/100 km at 120 km/h. The large 90-litre tank supports long range even with spirited use.
Early service guidance calls for a main service at 6 months or 7500 km with oil and materials charged. later practice focuses on regular oil changes and timing-belt renewal every five years or around 45-60 000 miles. Gearbox and differential oils are filled for life but many owners refresh them during major work.
Standard safety equipment from 1984 includes Bosch ABS that can be switched off, dual-circuit disc brakes (ventilated at the front), power-assisted steering with collapsible column, three-point belts for all seats and lockable centre and rear differentials. Permanent four-wheel drive adds traction and stability on poor surfaces.
Living with the car means watching for rust on pre-1985 bodies, checking the hydraulic brake accumulator and keeping the vacuum diff-lock system exercised. Parts supply is mixed. routine service items are obtainable while body and trim pieces can be scarce.
