Audi A2 2003–2005 dimensions, tows 1,000 kg

Braked towing is 1,000 kg.

Audi A2 2003–2005 car dimensions: 3826 mm long, 1673 mm wide and 1553 mm high. Unladen weight is 995 kg. Braked towing is 1,000 kg.

Standard cabin kit covers front and side airbags, ESP with EDS and brake assist, ABS, electric front windows, central locking, electrohydraulic power steering, dust and pollen filter, height and reach adjustable steering wheel, and split folding removable rear seats. Automatic climate control sits in the Advance package or as a standalone option. Electronic cruise control and rear acoustic parking sensors are optional extras, the latter also in the High-tech package. Colour-screen navigation is available as an option. No Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, lane keep or reversing camera appears in the equipment lists.

Boot volume is 390 litres with seats up and expands to 1085 litres with the split rear seats folded. The seats are removable and a double load floor is optional for a flatter surface.

Braked towing capacity is 1000 kg and unbraked is 540 kg. Payload is listed at 515 kg against a kerb weight of 995 kg without driver and 1510 kg gross. A factory towbar is available as an option.

S line packages add a sport suspension with lower ride height. No heavy-duty cooling is listed. The aluminium body and removable seats support light work or leisure loads but the car remains a compact hatch focused on efficiency rather than heavy duty use.

The cabin feels surprisingly roomy for the compact exterior thanks to the Space Floor Concept with sunken rear footwells that allow a relaxed seated posture. Aluminium decor elements add a quality touch. Front seats are height-adjustable with good side support on sports versions, and the optional Open Sky glass roof floods the interior with light for an airy feel while the tinted heat-insulating glass keeps things calm.

Fuel: Super Plus unleaded min. 98 RON, combined 5.9 l/100 km

Service: LongLife interval by indicator up to 30,000 km or max 2 years

Crash test: Euro NCAP 4 stars (2002)

Standard safety: ABS with EBV, ESP with EDS/ASR and brake assist, front and side airbags, belt pretensioners, Isofix preparation

The 1.6 FSI runs on Super Plus of at least 98 RON and returns a combined figure of 5.9 l/100 km with 142 g/km CO2 under the period test cycle. City use sits higher at 8.1 l while extra-urban drops to 4.7 l. The 42-litre tank supports decent range on efficient runs.

Servicing follows the LongLife system with intervals shown by the onboard indicator, reaching a maximum of 30,000 km or two years. A unique service module behind the front grille gives quick access to the oil dipstick, filler and washer fluid without lifting the full bonnet. Warranty cover was two years unlimited mileage plus three years on paint and twelve on body corrosion.

Safety equipment is strong for the class. Standard fit includes ABS with electronic brake-force distribution, ESP incorporating electronic differential lock and traction control plus brake assist, dual front airbags and front side airbags, pretensioners on all three-point belts and Isofix mounts on the outer rear seats. The aluminium Space Frame body proved rigid in the 2002 Euro NCAP test, earning four stars for adult protection with only minor cabin deformation. Optional curtain airbags were available and performed well in an extra pole test.

Living with the car is straightforward once the aluminium construction and service hatch are understood. The light body aids economy and handling while the practical rear seats fold or lift out for flexible load space from 390 litres. Regular checks via the service module keep fluid levels simple, and the model earned high marks in period reliability surveys for its solid build.
